Default Troy or Victoria I Have A Question ???

    To Troy or Victoria,
I am trying different textures on some clothes for Fashion Cents that are the same color as the palette just maybe a shade lighter or darker. My question is if I use different colored textures to make the clothes will they show up in the game as long as I use the codes from palette colors ?
    Thanks berrysweetz

Yes, hun, they will. I have done stuff like that, using colors that aren't in the palette in some items and they show up just fine. They only problem Troy and Victoria have with doing this is it makes it harder for people to tell what color it is by just looking at it. As long as you write the code correctly, the game will bring it up just fine.

You are correct, Rogue. You can use other colors, but it does add potential confusion for players. This is especially true for color-blind players, and believe it or not, we do have quite a few players who are color-blind. So if you use a color that isn't in the palette, such players may confuse the color with one that is in the palette, and they may wonder why the item doesn't match.

Of course, they can always right-click on the item or doll to get a list of colors (or control-click on Mac). But you don't want to force the player to have to rely on that all the time. Plus, some players don't know they can do that - which will leave them stumped and confused.

If you do decide to use a non-standard color, I would suggest noting that you did so when you upload your clothing item to the forum. That way the color-blind players will at least know about it before they download your creation.

    To Troy, Victoria or Rogue.

I want to thank you for your response it was very helpful. I really appreciate your feedback and your quick response. However, now I have another question. LOL . I am going to attempt to make some formals, and on them I would like to add some sparkle. The sparkle texture that I would be using on the dress would match the color on the palette, like violet for instance. My question is, if I was to add the sparkly texture to the formal, would the dress show up in the game? Thanks berrysweetz

Sure, I don't see why not. I would recommend the colors of both the formals and the sparkles be included in the .dat file description for each clothing item, of course.

If you're not sure about a particular item you're working on, you can always e-mail us with a picture of it, and we can give you more specific feedback.
