I recently learned that the installers for my games don't run on 64-bit Windows. I'm using a version of Installshield from 2003 to build my installers, and apparently it generates 16-bit installers (which I didn't realize). 16-bit programs don't run on 64-bit Windows.
I'm looking into alternatives. A number of fellow indies have recommended Inno Setup. I played around with Inno Setup a few months ago, in preparation for the Dirk Dashing 2 preorder release, but had a few issues with it that I didn't have time to resolve. But now, fortunately, a few indies have shared their Inno Setup scripts with me, so maybe I can figure out where I went awry.
At some point, very soon (probably by the end of the year), I need to generate new installers for the Windows versions of my games. I'll probably wait until I finish the next update for Dirk Dashing 2, which should be in the next few weeks.
In the meantime, if any customers are now using 64-bit Windows and have trouble installing my games, let me know and I can provide you with a temporary zip file.
