Can I keep my weapons when I die?

I'm really enjoying this game. I think I've played through it three times now. But I do have one suggestion. When I die in the later levels, I lose all of my stronger weapons. This makes it insanely difficult to recover from sometimes. Can you change it so we don't lose our ship upgrades when we die?

When you die, the game drops all of your powerups in a pile at the spot where you died. So when you respawn, fly to that point to recover your weapons and armor. But do it immediately, because they disappear after a minute or so.
