In my last post I told you that I would be following the instructions for "Fashion Designer Kit" to test for ease and accuracy. I finally took the time to follow those and was able to get through all the instructions. We found a few things that needed clarification, so Troy is editing the document. It should be ready for release soon. Here is my custom add on:

From the looks of this picture I don't have to tell you that I am not an artist when it comes to drawing. However, I was able to produce a hat that showed up in the game! (even if it is pretty pathetic looking). :o It reminds me of the sailor hats folded from newspaper that I made when I was a kid.
One thing for sure, this experience gave me an even greater appreciation for what Troy has done to produce this game. I was impressed by the amount of work he did before I tried this, but now I know the amount of effort it takes to "draw" each piece, I am quadruply impressed.
There was a lot more to this process than just drawing a picture of the clothes than I expected. When I tried to draw the hat with my mouse, it reminded me of the old Etch-a-sketch toy. I couldn't get the curvature I wanted. Because I'm working with pixels, there is a "stair step" effect to the curves. But as with the Etch-a-sketch, with practice the curves will become easier to draw.
There is a lot of detail to pay attention to in the instructions. But once you do it the first time, it gets easier. As you go through the process, there are measurements to be made that you have to keep track of for use later in the process. So when you attempt to create your own clothes, be sure to take good notes of what you are doing.
Though creating your clothes for the game is not a quick process, it is rewarding to see and play your custom items in the game.
When you get ready to create your own wardrobe, don't hesitate to ask us questions to help you through the process. Have fun!
