Here's an interesting video that I came across today:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8039207.stm
The video shows what can happen when your computer gets a trojan infection. The reason I decided to blog about it is that they tell you how the victim's computer was infected - he was infected when he downloaded a pirated copy of a software program that he wanted.
Looking at piracy from a strictly moral issue, a lot of people don't see anything wrong with downloading pirated material. They think, "What's the big deal anyway? Why should I pay $20 for a game when I might be able to find a free copy somewhere on the Internet?" Well, next time you think that way, remember this video. You might save $20, but in the long run, it could cost you a lot more. The victim in the video had no idea the hackers got his passwords, bank account numbers, and other private data, nor did he even know they were watching him with his own webcam.
Think about it: someone took the game or other piece of software and illegally distributed it. Why would you risk downloading it? Do you really think you can trust them to not do something illegal or harmful to YOU?
