An update on my latest polymer clay creation - I belong to the San Diego Polymer Clay Guild (http://www.sdpcg.org/) and about every other month or so, we have a “swap”. A topic is set and then people sign up to make something out of polymer clay that represents that topic. The number of pieces you need to make depends on the number of people who sign up. So we exchanged our "tiles" at the September meeting. We had to make 18 of them. I chose to use black, white and red clay. I built a checkerboard cane, a spiral cane, and a bulls eye cane. The checkerboard and the spiral canes I had two sizes of each of the canes that I implemented into my pieces. Once the canes were built, I cut thin slices that I placed on black clay and then rolled the pieces into the black background clay. I cut the 1 ˝ in square pieces from that piece and applied that to a color mix slice that backed up the piece. Then I rolled out a very thin piece of clay that I wrapped around the edge of the tile to finish off the piece. After baking the pieces, I applied liquid clay to the top and cured the liquid clay with my heat gun. I was quite please with how the times turned out. I almost didn’t want to give away my pieces. If I had started earlier, I could have made something else to give away and kept those for myself. But then I would have probably wanted to keep those pieces too. Anyway, here are a couple of pictures of the tiles I made.
