In my last blog, I told you about the Polymer Clay Guild “Round Robin” where I taught a class on how to make roses. I taught my class during one of the sessions. That meant that I was able to take classes from other instructors during the other 3 sessions.
One of the ladies in a class I took talked about “cookie cutter boxes”. What is a cookie cutter box you ask? Well, you start with a metal cookie cutter and you form the clay around the inside and the outside of the cutter. After the pieces are baked, the two pieces fit together perfectly. Then you add a top and a bottom and you have a box.
I had to try this technique! It was pretty easy. Though if I had started with a simpler form, it would have been even easier. I chose the heart form. And now I am really enamored with these boxes.
Attached is a picture of three of the boxes I have made so far. One is pearl red clay with no embellishments. The second one is pale green with a purple rose and leaves that is wrapped in dark green trim. The third one is “faux marble”. The faux marble is the technique I learned from the book Troy gave me for my birthday. (I mentioned this in my response to all the birthday greetings.)
What fun! Now I have to try another technique from the “birthday book” and build some more of these little boxes. Maybe next time I will try a different cookie cutter shape!
