My
Review
This episode of
Virtual Villagers picks up where the last one left off, answering
the question of who or what could have interfered with the magic
of the island. The story begins with a new tribe, handpicked by
you, that ventures into the dark center of the island and is
captured by hostile natives. This introduces you to a new gameplay
element: the original inhabitants of Isola, which you can't touch
or guide. Not only must you help your villagers with their usual
foraging tasks, but also you must dodge scary and unfriendly
guards. There are several different types of heathen natives that
you must learn how to deal with. Fortunately, it is possible to
"convert" them to your tribe, and once they join your
villagers, you will be able to guide them. This brings me to the
other new feature: the god powers. The previous games in the
series have always been a bit god-like, in that you guide and
control your villagers. This game builds on that theme by giving
you powers like unleashing inserts, controlling weather, and
raising dead villagers. Some players may be put off by the
possibility of "playing god", but it adds an interesting
new twist to the series. If you have enjoyed other games in this
series, you'll probably like this one too!
