New Star Grand Prix is a top-down racing game inspired by classic games such as Super Sprint and Micro Machines. It features a full career mode that spans up to 10 seasons, where you must compete against the world's best drivers on 17 real-world tracks. There is also a track editor that lets you build your own tracks. To win races, you must deal with changing weather conditions, manage your pit stops to keep your tires fresh and your car fueled, and stay on the track. The game also features a forgiving damage model, which allows you to bump other drivers without completely destroying your car.

My Review

I really enjoyed this racing game. It features a 2D overhead view instead of the first-person driver's seat perspective that is common with modern racing games, and I found this refreshing. It really lets you see what is happening around you, and allows you to bring some strategy to the game. Besides the racing, the game also has some simulation aspects to it, where you must manage your career and your relationships with your boss, pit crew, fans, and family. Each of these relationships directly impact certain aspects of the race itself.

For the most part, this game is very family-friendly. I gave it a Teen rating, however, because the sim part of the game provides an in-game casino that lets you to gamble with your virtual prize money. In the casino, you can play blackjack, roulette, or slots. These little mini-games are a nice diversion and allow you to relax your fingers between races; however, some parents may object to the gambling aspect of the game, even if it is with fake money. So parents may want to check out this game themselves first.
