My Review

I love point-and-click adventure games, and this one reminds me my old LucasArts favorite, The Secret of Monkey Island! It has the same whimsical humor that makes for some good lighthearted fun. The game is set in an alternate 19th century world, with wooden space ships, cast iron machines, and computers that look like penny arcade games. The main hero is Kaptain Brawe, a gung-ho adventurer with a huge ego and a small IQ. His crew consists of Rowboat, his trusty wooden robot, and Kralek, a lone crewman who doesn't think much of his captain. The game delivers plenty of clever quips and puns in the dialogue between the characters, which you must read because there are no voiceovers. But I'm one of those players who appreciates the old school approach, and I think the reading aspect will be good for kids. The gameplay itself is pretty clean - I didn't see any violence during the demo, and the player is not encouraged to participate in illegal activities. However, I rated it Teen for two reasons. First, there is some mild language sparsely scattered through the dialogue - not much, but it is there. Second, there are some mildly suggestive themes. For example, Kaptain Brawe's cabin wall holds two posters of Luna, drawn in tight clothes and racy poses. You'll see this very early in the game, so you can review this quickly for yourself and decide if you think it is a problem for your kids. Overall, this is a very entertaining adventure game, so if you or your children enjoy adventure games, give this one a try!
