GSB is a strategy simulation that does
away with all the base building and delays and gets straight to
the meat and potatoes of science-fiction games: the big space
battles fought by huge spaceships with tons of laser beams and
things going 'zap!', 'ka-boom!', and "ka-pow!". In GSB,
you design your own spaceships from modular components, arrange
them into fleets, give your ships orders of engagement, and then
hope they emerge victorious from battle (or at least blow up in
aesthetically pleasing ways).
GSB is primarily a
strategy game that focuses around designing the ships in your
fleet and deploying them in effective combat formations. Once a
battle commences, you watch it unfold as a spectator and see if
your efforts paid off. The graphics are spectacular for an indie
title. And the music is awesome; it was composed by Jesse Hopkins,
who also did the music for two of my own games, The
Adventures of Rick Rocket and Dirk
Dashing 2: E.V.I.L Eye. This game is mostly clean, except for
some mild language in the comm traffic printed in
the upper right corner of the battle screen.
