My Review
The original Fairway
Solitaire is still one of my favorite games, and I play at least
one round nearly every day. So I was very excited to find this new
game on the Big Fish Games web site. Fairway
feels more like a remake rather than a sequel. Much is the same -
the gameplay, the wild shot cards with various mini games, and
even many of the sound effects. But there are some new features,
as well - the ability to pick your own card deck from a multitude
of different designs, the rough shot cards that require 2 plays to
clear, the star irons that serve as wild cards, and lots of new
items in the golf shop that you can purchase with the golf bucks
you earn as you play. The graphics are new as well, with a much
wider variety of scenic backgrounds and gopher animations. And
there are new voiceovers, though I find most of the new
commentators are rather bland. I miss the enthusiastic comments
from the original Australian actors. The one commentator that
isn't bland is the Scottish guy, but his humor can be rather
crude. Some of the things he says is even bleeped out, so while
the game is family-friendly, I would recommend ages 10+. Overall,
I enjoyed the game enough to purchase it, and I look forward to
unwinding in the evenings with lots of gorgeous new courses. I'm
also curious what that sneaky gopher is up to after that opening
animation...
