October 2009 Newsletter

President's Corner

Last month I had pneumonia, so business at My Game Company was pretty much put on hold for most of September. We did not make any progress on Dirk Dashing 2 or our other projects that are happening. But we did manage to release our first add-on pack for Fashion Cents Gents, and we were able to add a few new games to the site during the month.

Recovery has been a slow process for me. Each day I have a little more energy and I’m able to do a little more than the previous day. I’ve been able to return to my full-time job, and I’m starting to have enough strength left over at the end of the day to do a little work on the game company. So I should be able to resume work on Dirk Dashing 2 very soon.

Thank you Victoria for helping me out!

It's time to get creative with Scrapbook Paige!

Our review: If you know Victoria or read her blog, then you know that she loves crafts! She also loves hidden object games, so this game was right up her alley! The scenes in this game consist of shelves full of rubber stamps, pegboards with packages hanging on them, and drawers full of scrapbook supplies, beads, and buttons. Finding the items on your list can be challenging, because some items can be hard to spot amongst the clutter of drawers or the hand drawn artwork on the rubber stamps. There’s also a riddle item on each level - you’ll have to solve the riddle in order to identify the item. In between stages, you can design scrapbook pages for customers. This is a great game to play together with your kids!

Enter the magical world of Miriel and help her to fulfill her dreams. Prepare delicious bread and cakes to keep eager customers satisfied while building a general store empire throughout the magical Kingdom. Miriel needs your help!

Our review: This game introduces some fresh twists on the time management style of game. The biggest thing you learn before you get too far into this game is that it isn’t about clicking, it’s about planning. Some of the items that customers order, like sandwiches and cakes, take time to make. You have to anticipate orders and start making these items in advance. Also, certain items like apples are restocked slowly, so you have to take them when they are available, even if you don’t need them at the moment. The graphics in this game are lovely and very polished, and the medieval setting is wonderful. The story has a bit of a “choose your own adventure” feel to it, and the choices you make will influence the outcome of the story. Another really neat feature in this game is that as you’re going along, you can unlock real recipes. For example, one of the first items you get to make in the game is bread. After a few levels, you can unlock a recipe for Miriel’s Bread that you can bake in real life. It’s pretty cool that you can cook and eat the same things Miriel is serving to customers in the game! If you have enjoyed time management games in the past and perhaps become a bit burned out by all the clones, give this one a try!
