June
2010 Newsletter
President's Corner
It's been a long time coming, but in two weeks I will
finally be working full-time as an independent game developer!
It's
very exciting, but at the same time, it's also a bit scary. As I
mentioned in February's newsletter, we're much more dependent on game
sales now to put food on the table. So I appreciate your business more
than ever!
You
can help us out if you do these 2 simple things:
1)
Tell your family and friends about our games!
2)
Make My Game Company your first stop when you go online to look for
new games!
Thank
you! With your support, we'll be able to bring you lots of new games
in the coming years!

Changes
to Our Game Catalog
We
have almost finished updating our catalog, following the announcement
from our partner Reflexive earlier this year that they will not be
selling games after June 30. Many games can now be obtained directly
from developers, which means you will receive better support and
up-to-date versions of games (with the most recent bug fixes and
newest features). Other games on our site are now provided by Big Fish
Games.
Unfortunately,
we have been unable to replace the Mac versions for some of the games.
Reflexive was one of the few companies that carried the Mac versions
for particular games. So we will leave Reflexive's download and buy
links for these games on our site until June 30. If you want one of
these games, make sure you buy it before June 30!
We
have also removed about 25% of the games from our catalog. When we
first started building our site, we included a wide variety of games.
But now I think we have a much better idea of the kinds of games that
our customers want. As we move forward, we intend to be more selective
about which games we carry. We may only post one or two new games per
week, but they'll be good ones.
Dirk
Dashing 2 Production Update
Production
has been on hold these past few weeks while we've been updating our
game catalog. But now that we're nearly done, we will resume work on
Dirk Dashing 2.
I
would like to finish the game before the end of the year, if I can.
Being full-time will definitely help, but I'll also need to limit the
number of new features that go into the game. That means there won't
be any car chases in Dirk 2. Here are the key features that will
probably be added for the sequel:
1)
Lighting effects (these are mostly done, and will be an integral
part of the game's puzzles)
2)
A health system, so Dirk won't always die instantly when he makes a
mistake
3)
A basic inventory system, so Dirk can pick up the gadgets he finds
and use them later
4)
A wider variety of gadgets and weapons
5)
The ability to replay a level, like you can in Rick Rocket
6)
Bonuses and awards that you can earn (like sneaking through a level
undetected, or never getting hurt)
Of
course, this list is subject to change. But it reduces the scope of
the project so I can finish it quicker, and at the same time doesn't
sacrifice anything that would impact the gameplay.
